WINTER TRAINING AT IRON CITY LACROSSE

box is back.

CO-ED BOX LACROSSE ACADEMY + BOYS TRAVEL TEAM TRYOUTS

We’re excited to offer another opportunity for players to get additional box training this fall and hone their skills before our official 2026–27 travel box team tryouts.

Iron City’s Box Academy provides focused training in the box game while helping players develop skills that translate directly to field lacrosse. The Academy runs on Thursdays from late September through October, with the October 15 session also serving as the official travel box team tryout.

Academy participants will attend October 15 as part of the regular training program. Players who do not want to participate in the full Academy but would still like to try out for a travel box team may register for the October 15 session as a standalone tryout.

Players are also welcome to participate in the Box Academy strictly for training and development. Participation in the travel box season is not required.

GIRLS BOX ACADEMY

Girls are welcome to participate in all five co-ed Box Academy skill sessions this fall. The Academy provides the same box-specific training and development opportunities for both boys and girls, with an emphasis on quicker decision-making, stick skills, ball control and confidence in tight spaces.

LOOKING FOR A FULL GIRLS BOX SEASON?

Girls interested in participating in a full box lacrosse season can also join our Iron Maidens Girls Box Lacrosse program. Iron Maidens provides a dedicated girls box experience with regular training and season-long development.

Girls do not participate in the October 15 Boys Travel Box Tryouts.

WHY BOX?

The smaller space and faster pace of box lacrosse force players to make decisions quickly, handle the ball under pressure and stay involved throughout the game. Box training can help players develop:

  • Faster decision-making and reaction time

  • Better stick skills in traffic

  • Stronger off-ball movement and communication

  • Finishing in tight spaces

  • Comfort playing through contact and pressure

  • Creativity and confidence with the ball

For field players, the increased touches and limited space make box an excellent way to sharpen skills heading into the spring season.
